7 Foods For Shiny, Healthy Hair


Hey Everyone,

Besides using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair, the food that you eat plays an important role to leave your hair shiny and healthy too.

1. Protein

Prevents: Dry, split-ends, weak

Food to eat: Chicken, steaks, fish, eggs, nuts

2. Carbohydrates

Prevents: Hair loss, dull

Food to eat: Rice, wholegrain bread, oats

3. Iron

Prevents: Hair loss

Food to eat: Red meat, chicken, fish, vegetables (spinach, kale, broccoli, salad greens)

4. Omega-3

Prevents: Dry

Food to eat: Salmon, herring, sardines, trout, mackerel, avocado, walnuts, pumpkin

5. Multivitamins & Minerals

Prevents: Hair loss, split-ends, weak

Food to eat: 

Vitamin C (produce collagen to strengthen your hair) – Orange, kiwi, blueberries, papaya

Vitamin A (promotes cell growth) – Carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, green vegetables

It’s The Way You Shower

Quick question: Are you showering the right way? Warm water or cold water? Hair or body first? Which one is which??

Below are the answers and reasons why you should be showering this way:

1. Brush Your Hair First

This is to detangle your hair and prevent split ends from happening. Because when your hair is wet, the hair will stick to each other and using your fingers to comb them is a no-no! Besides that, you will find it easier to lather your hair if you brush your hair first.

2. Start With Warm Shower

Warm water helps to open up your pores and cuticles to remove the excessive oil and dirt from your hair and your face, as well as your body.

3. Shampoo Your Hair And Conditioner After

I always mix my shampoo with water every time when I buy a new one (3/4 shampoo, 1/4 water) because the liquid is very thick and its enough to cover for my hair. (And its cost savings too!) Apply too much of shampoo may also leads to dandruff if you did not rinse your hair thoroughly. Start lathering from the top, and only concentrate massaging the roots because your roots collect most oil. Avoid shampooing at your ends because it tends to dry up and will lead to split ends. The shampoo will lather through your ends upon rinsing with water. When you apply conditioner you can concentrate at your ends, not the top because we do not want your roots to become more oily and loose its strength which will lead to hair loss.

4. Cleanse Your Body After You’re Done With Your Hair

If you ever wonder why you have breakouts at your back, the conditioner is to be blamed. Dry skin? Shampoo’s fault. That is why after washing our hair, we will then cleanse our body to wash away the leftover shampoo and conditioner off our body.

5. The Last Step: Cleanse Your Face

This should be your last step of your shower routine, after cleansing your hair and your body. And before leaving the shower, make sure you rinse with cold water first to close off the pores and cuticles, leaving you feeling fresh and squeaky clean!

**Note: If you wore make up, you need to remove it first before hitting the shower!

6. Save The Shave For Last

After showering, wait at least 20 – 30 minutes before you shave so that it would be easier for you to shave when your skin and unwanted hair is completely dry. Use a shaving cream to avoid rashes and dry skin after-shave. Ensure that your razor is dry and clean. I would always use disposable razors and I would dispose them after I used 3 times.

3 Handy Home Remedy Tips To Get Rid of Eye Bags

Eye Bags be gone!

Eye bags happen for 2 reasons:
1. Not getting enough sleep
2. Aging

Fortunately we can reduce the appearance of eye bags and here I’m going to share with you the 3 handy home remedies which I find it effective:

1. Cucumbers

Slice the chilled cucumbers  and place it on your eyes for half an hour. Cucumbers are one of the most natural remedies to reduce puffiness of your eyes. Tip: You can just leave it on while taking a nap!

2.  Green Tea bags

Green tea are well known as an anti oxidant and the natural properties of these green teas will help to bring puffy eyes back to their original size. First you have to pour warm water and let it settle down for 10 mins. After that, place the chilled green tea bag over your eyes and relax.

3. Ice

Ice, ice baby! One of the most easy, fast and simple trick. Another trick is you can also leave the metal spoon in the fridge! Same method, you can place the spoon over your eyes for 2 mins. As for the ice, you can place it on your eye bags and roll it in circular motion. Or if you don’t want it to drip all over the place, simply place it in a small towel and rest them over your eyes.

The 3 methods above helps to reduce your eye bags, but it does not stop you from aging. We still have to rely on a good eye product, that can help us to reduce the fine lines around our eyes. BodyShop Moisture White Shiso Eye Serum – An anti oxidant moisturising serum that helps to brighten up your eye bags area. In other words, it helps to reduce the dark spots that appears under your eyes. And after using this product for 2 weeks, I noticed my eye bags are getting brighter.

Last but not least, make sure you get an adequate amount of sleep and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrate all the time.

Pet Grooming: How Often Do I Groom My Dogs

Hey Everyone,

Besides bathing my 2 little rascals every week, I would also send them to the dog’s grooming place for full grooming that includes bathing, hair cut, nail cutting and ear cleaning. I just found out that the place where I send my dogs for grooming to, they have brushing teeth services too (extra charge and upon request). Now that I know, I will do that the next time I send them for grooming again. Probably in 3 months time?

Yeah, I normally send them for hair cut after 3 to 4 months later. It’s not cheap to send them every month! They charge for pekingese size, RM 90 per dog. For tooth brushing its another RM 10 there. And I have 2… Although I only send them like 3 months later, I do bath them every week and brush their fur.

I kind of like their service and the way they handle everything, especially the shaving part. One of my boy, Chor Patt has a very, very sensitive skin especially near his private area and around his belly. The first time I sent him there was a bit of redness but it was not as bad as the last groomer place that I sent to. So this was the second time I sent to this new place, and the groomer did it really well. No redness at all, maybe because I told him to shave his sensitive area first before shaving the rest of the parts? But nevertheless, I was happy.

Last time I used to send my 2 dogs to this groomer place in TTDI. I always send them there since they were puppies. At that time, the owner was the one who handles my 2 dogs so there was no problem at that time. This owner also owns a grooming school so sometimes he teaches there. About 1 year later, Chor Patt always come back with redness at his private and stomach area, he was so itchy that he always scratch it against the floor. The itch usually takes about a week to clear. Sometimes I have to take him to the vet doctor when the itch got worst. Although I always inform the owner to be extra gentle with Chor Patt, he always come back with the itch. I have been going back to the same place for 5 years (Chor Patt is turning 6 this year) because there are no other place that I can send to. I’ve also found out that the owner doesn’t do hands-on anymore: he just leave it to his staffs to do it. And the staffs probably are trainees or students from his grooming school. He has open few other shops as well, so as he got so busy, he’s always not around the shop anymore and he will have his assistant there to take care for me. The last time I sent my dogs there, his private area swells so badly that I had to complain to the owner. Although the owner apologises and gave me a free cream to apply, I can’t send my dogs back there anymore because his staffs were not professional and rough. And seeing Chor Patt suffers from the itch that lasted for 2 weeks, I have to look for a new place. And I found one near my place that was just newly opened (about a year ago) in Bandar Utama.

I’ve send to this place twice, and so far I was quite happy with their service. But one thing I don’t like is that they put all the dogs in the cage. Probably because they don’t have big space. Unlike the one in TTDI, they don’t put the dogs in the cage. They will just chain the dogs on the grooming table.

I don’t like seeing dogs in the cage. It’s like they are trapped inside a small area, where they can’t move around freely but just sit and lie inside there. I have cage at home but I don’t cage my dogs. I let them run around freely around the house. Because to me, they are not animals. They are humans, and they are part of my family. They have feelings too. I will only put them in the cage when we have visitors or when after bathing because they tend to runaway from me. And they are already potty-trained since young, although sometimes Chor Patt tends to be naughty and always missed the spot and pee all over the floor.

Healthy Snacks to Snack On When You’re (Still) Hungry

Hey Everyone,

One thing about living in Malaysia is that we are surrounded by delicious local food. And best part is, most of them are opened till late up to 24 hours! From restaurants or hawker stalls place like in Jalar Alor that serves nice local foods (bbq chicken wings, fried noodles, fried rice, etc.), and 24 hours mamak restaurants (roti canai, roti telur, etc) to fast food chain restaurants like McDonalds and KFC (although only a few open 24 hours).

Sometimes when we feel hungry at night (after dinner), we would start craving for yummy Nasi Kandar Kayu’s roti canai, McD’s french fries and instant noodle Indo Mee. I know, this is so not healthy.

That is why I want to share with you today on healthy snacks to snack on when you’re still hungry. This was what I would normally eat when I’m still hungry:

1. Oatmeat

Quaker-Oats-OatmealI normally take oats with milo because oats are tasteless. You can also mix with milk, honey and fruits. Take it warm so that you can have a good night sleep with warm belly. I would normally take up to 2 – 3 scoops. You can take more if you want because fret not, oats are free from fats, sugar and cholesterol.

2. Milo

MiloNot the 3-in-1 sachet please. You should swap those 3-in-1 with the one straight from the Milo tin. In case you didn’t know, the normal Milo tin already have milk and sugar compared to 3-in-1, they have higher sugar contain in it. So you should skip that and take the original one.

3. Fruits

FruitsApples, grapes and bananas. Or any other kind of fruits that you like. They are all water-based and fat free. Plus, they are healthy too.

4. Yogurt

Yogurt-Fat-FreeYou can buy a plain yogurt and mix it with honey and berries, or you can get a low fat or fat free yogurt. They have many flavours but I like the one with mixed berries.

5. Cereal

CornflakesI take cornflakes original. This is a good substitute if you are craving for potato chips or french fries, or if your mouth are feeling “itchy” and you just want to munch on something.

6. Wholemeal bread

Massimo-Whole-MealI don’t enjoy eating wholemeal bread but if I’m really that hungry, I would either dip it in my milo or I would spread my bread with fat free butter. You can spread it with peanut butter, jam or kaya. Just make sure that whatever you spread on is fat-free and low sugar content!

We can still enjoy all the Indo mees, roti canais and McD french fries mentioned above,


Just don’t forget to stick to your routine: drinking at least 3 litres of water in a day because water helps to boost your metabolism, cleans bowels and flushes out all the unwanted toxins. Drinking lots of water also makes you feel full in a way, so that you won’t crave for more food. You can read about benefits of drinking lots of water here.

Recipe: ABC Soup

Hey Everyone,

Today I’m going to share with you a very simple and easy recipe to make ABC soup. I almost do this every week because its so easy that every time when we come back from work, we can just eat it straight. By the way, I use a slow cooker to make this soup.


(1 – Pai Kwat soak in salt and hot water, 2 – Pour out the hot water after 5 mins, 3 – Ingredients (1 peeled carrot, onion (not peeled yet), 2 tomatoes and 1 peeled potato), 4 – All ingredients chopped into small pieces) 

Total servings: 4 bowls (4 persons)

1 medium size carrot
1 medium size potato (size of your fist)
1 medium size onion (size of your fist)
2 tomatoes
4 pieces pai kwat (Pork bone or pork ribs)
1 red apple (optional)


1. Rinse the pork with water and rub the pork with the salt to clean it
2. Soak the pork (with the salt) with hot boiled water for 3 – 5 minutes to remove the fatty oil
3. Remove carrot and potato skin and chop into small pieces
4. Remove the outer layer of the onions, cut into half and start peeling the onions
5. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces
6. (Optional) Remove the red apple skin and chop into small pieces. Remove the seeds.
7. Pour away the hot water and rinse the pork again
8. Put everything (carrots, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, pai kwat and red apples) into the slow cooker
9. Pour 4 bowls of water (3000ml)

You can leave it overnight, or you can drink it after 5 hours. So by the time you get home from work, it is ready to drink. Just put it on low fire. I don’t add salt or MSG to this soup because my husband and I thought that the soup tastes rich and good enough to drink without it. You can add salt if you find that the soup is tasteless. Or other alternative is to add 1 or 2 more tomatoes in it. But so far with my ingredients above, I don’t have to add anything.

Actually you can add many things into ABC soup, depending on how big is your slow cooker. You can add vegetable like white raddish or old cucumber, or even spinach.

Do You Facial?

Last week I finally had my facial treatment. And my last facial was in February after Chinese New Year (3 months ago, eek!!) I wasn’t being lazy, I was busy working and I’ve got no time to make appointment. Every time when I want to make appointment, they are always full and I would always be placed in their waiting list. So now, every after facial I would immediately book my appointment for next month, together with my hubby!

How often do you facial?

It is strongly advisable to go for facial at least once a month. I have been doing that every year since I sign up the facial package. For me, it is part of my beauty routine to include facial as facial is consider a “full facial treatment” because it helps to:

1. Deep cleanse your pores to remove all the bacteria that clogs up your pores which leads to whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. How it causes the clog is because of your face oil and also because of your make up. That’s why getting the right product to remove your make up is also important, but sometimes this product does not remove 100% entirely. Professional facial centres has the proper tools (not to worry, no needles involve here) and products that can help not only to clean your pores, but also the restore them the way it should be.

2. Boost your skin hydration. Everyday we are exposed to air conditioning be it at workplace, shopping malls or home. But most of the time is at workplace. Air conditioning tends to dry up your skin and can lead to clogged pores too because of the facial oil. These facial oil here means the oil is produced from your face, which leads to oily skin. How it leads to oily skin is because of clogged pores. And when the pores are clogged, thats when all the blackheads and pimples pops out. Most facial has a hydration treatment that feeds your skin with water! Plus with their professionally trained beauticians they know how to massage your face correctly and the products that they use helps to hydrate your skin and repair all the dead cells.

3. Relaxation is the key. While facials may take up to 2 hours, it is a great time to relax and enjoy the facial massages. With all the massages in placed, these beauticians already know the methods on how each facial massages can help to make your face slimmer, tighter, and radiant all over again. They would also play soft relaxing music and apply lavender essence oil for the massage, how not to relax and fall asleep?

The package that I would always take is the hydration package and stem cell package.

Hydration package includes moisturising your face with extra boost of water which will leave your skin dewy, soft, supple and radiant.

Stem Cell package is an anti ageing treatment which reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves collagen and hydrates skin intensely. I love love love this Stem Cell package because it helps me to shape my face by making it look slimmer and sharper too. It has given me a proven result the first time I did this Stem Cell treatment, and till now, it never fails me. I have just sign up another package for this again. Though its on the high price side, but it was worth it for me and it has proven me results.

My husband did facial with me too, but of course in a separate room. They have dedicated space for females and males. My husband also love their facial treatment. The package that I got for him is a Cleansing package. He has a very nice smooth skin, but the problem is the blackheads around his nose. This package is suitable for him because it helps to clear up the clogged pores and blackheads, and eliminates dead skin cells. At the same time, it will help to tighten up the pores and maintain the moisture which will result in healthy and revitalized skin.

Before you make any decision, there are few tips that I would like to share with you before signing up for facial package:

1. Google up that professional beauty centres near you and read what other customers’ view of them

2. Before signing up a package, the beautician will have to check and analyse what type of skin you have first: normal, dry, oily, sensitive or combination and will then recommend you which package is suitable for you. Share with them your concern and ask for their advice on how to go about it. For example I have combination skin (oily and sensitive). So first they would recommend me to fix up my skin, so they recommended me hydration package. After few sessions with this package, they would then check the condition of my skin. My skin gradually improves so thats when then they allowed me to take Stem Cell package because that was what I wanted: an anti ageing treatment. If the beautician was being too pushy and simply sell you the package, they are not doing the right thing because you would never know whether the product that they using are suitable for your skin, right?

3. Buy that facial package in small quantity. Or if they are having “ala carte” promo, just take it. Like I mentioned above, you don’t know whether their product is suitable for your skin. At the same time, whether you like the way they do the facial massages and the method that they use. But of course you can always request for another beautician on your next facial appointment if you are not pleased with the previous one.

4. Consider facial as your lifetime investment. At least once a month will do. If you don’t do it often, you will not see the result. Plus, this is a natural beauty regime compared to having botox and injections to your face. One of my beauty motto is to age gracefully. Confidence is the key! Look at other celebrities who aged gracefully, like Michelle Pheiffer, Tina Fey, Sandra Bullock to name a few.
